The "International Council for Applied Mineralogy" (ICAM) was founded in Johannesburg, S. Africa in 1981 by scientists from Australia, Canada, Germany, France, Poland, South Africa and the USA ICAM should provide an interdisciplinary forum for specialists in the fields of mineralogy, chemistry, mineral exploration, engineering, environment, ceramics, metallurgy, archaeometry and medicine. ICAM is to recruit industrial participation, to highlight their current research needs, and to promote contacts to specialists in all fields of applied mineralogy. ICAM congress themes: •Advanced materials, including high-performance technical ceramics and glasses •Analytical techniques, instrumentation and automation •Bio-mimetic mineral materials, medical mineralogy •Construction materials including cement/SCMs, concrete, bricks, tiles, screeds •Cultural heritage, stone artifacts and preservation •Environment and energy mineralogy, including CO2 sequestration •Geometallurgy and process mineralogy •Industrial minerals including gems, ore minerals, and mineral exploration
