  Successful conservation measures in Europe has led the recovery of Dalmatian pelican populations in western and central Europe. As a result, IUCN has downlisted the conservation status of Dalmatian Pelicans from Vulnerable to Near Threatened in 2017. While the European populations have recovered, the status of this species occur in Asia is far from favourable. Especially the critically endangered East Asian population has less than 150 individuals that breed in western Mongolia and spends the non-breeding period along the East China coast. This is one of the most threatened waterbird populations in the EAA Flyway requiring urgent conservation actions by range countries.
