By encouraging them to notice differences in language - and to become more aware of both writing conventions and the mistakes they commonly make – you can help them to upgrade their control of writing and language use. Handout Greg Archer began teaching IELTS classes in 2010, before becoming an IELTS Speaking and Writing Examiner in 2011. After moving to Cambridge in 2013, he worked for seven years at an international college, at various times managing the English Language department, developing in-house courses for pre-university study, and teaching English for Academic Purposes, IELTS, and other Cambridge exam classes to students aiming to enter a UK or English- speaking university. He is now a freelance author, teacher and teacher trainer, and an writer for IELTS and other Cambridge exams. 15.50-16.10 - Алексей Сергеевич Подчасов (Alexey Sergeevich Podchasov) 'Course Review: How to teach IELTS Self-study' You want to become an IELTS teacher and wonder if “How to teach IELTS Self-study” course will be worth your time and money. I have just completed this course myself, and I can help you answer this question by sharing my experience with you. In my report I will look at the course structure, its aims and outcomes, explain its advantages and disadvantages. Подчасов Алексей Сергеевич (Podchasov Alexey Sergeevich), holds a PhD in Philology and has worked as a teacher of English at Lomonosov Moscow State University for more than 20 years. His interests include methodology of teaching English, intercultural communication, hermeneutics and exegetics. 16.15-16.35 - Тамара Арамовна Карапетян (Tamara Aramovna Karapetyan) 'IELTS Speaking section: Major Challenges for Students of Non-linguistic Specialties' International exams, being today in great demand, form a specific new paradigm in teaching. IELTS as one of the most recognized testing systems around the globe is not an exception. The Speaking section of the exam aimed at testing the ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a foreign language is viewed as most challenging for students of non-linguistic departments. My talk will cover the main problematic areas students often face while preparing for the Speaking section. We will take a close look at the most recurrent speaking gaps, categorize them and identify the ways to minimize them. Тамара Арамовна Карапетян (Tamara Aramovna Karapetyan), a Lomonosov Moscow State University lecturer, Faculty of Economics, Department of Foreign Languages. She is interested in ESP studies, the Terminology of Art and Architecture, Cognitive Linguistics and Cross-Cultural Communication.
