Traditions and innovations have been driving forces for the development of theatre. Completely new things do not just appear out of nowhere in theatre. Innovative elements join long-existing traditions. How will these traditional elements transform themselves during this process? Furthermore, how much of the traditions will innovative elements inherit? To answer these questions, it is necessary to consider them in the context of the consciousness of communities, not just of the consciousness of expressions of individuals, which characterizes modern theatre. Traditions can not be inherited by an individual. They are fostered and inherited by a community. Theatre naturally engage the inner issues of individuals, but they are closely tied to the maintenance and development of the communities that operate these plays. How can theatre and its traditions be involved in the realization of the identities of communities in times of globalization? How can tradition, the entity that inherits and maintains cultures, engage in theatre, and open the way to the future for theatre? The conference will provide opportunities to consider not only traditional theatre around the world but also the traditional nature of theatre and the roles of the communities that innovate.
