  The 4th workshop on “Parameterization of Lakes in Numerical Weather Prediction and Climate Modelling” will be held in Évora. Portugal, May 07-09, 2015. The Évora workshop continues the lake-parameterization workshop series, following the previous workshops held in Zelenogorsk (Russia) in 2008, Norrköping (Sweden) in 2010, and Helsinki (Finland) in 2012. Results from the studies presented at previous workshops are published in Boreal Environment Research (special issue, v. 15, No. 2, see http://www.borenv.net/BER/ber152.htm ) and Tellus A (thematic clusters, see link). The Lake2015 is co-organized by the COST Action ES1404 “A European network for a harmonised monitoring of snow for the benefit of climate change scenarios, hydrology and numerical weather prediction” and has the support of the University of Évora and the Institute of Earth Sciences. The discussion in Évora will be focused on (but nit strictly limited to) the following issues: Lake-atmosphere interactions and coupling (parameterization of lakes in numerical models of the atmosphere, the impact of lakes on atmospheric processes, greenhouse gases transfers), Snow and ice on lakes, reservoirs and other water bodies (Data assimilation of observations and parameterization of snow and ice layers over water surfaces in NWP and climate models, interaction air-snow-ice-water) external parameters (raw data set and generation of external-parameter fields required to use lake parameterization schemes in atmospheric models, e.g. fields of lake depth and lake fraction), assimilation of observational data on lake surface state (space-borne and in-situ observations of lake surface state, assimilation of observational data into atmospheric models using lake parameterization schemes), model validation and intercomparison (validation of NWP models that incorporate lake parameterization and lake data assimilation schemes, single-column studies, intercomparison of lake models, e.g. within the framework of the Lake Model Intercomparison Project), processes in fresh-water bodies (including studies related to biochemistry and water quality issues, in frozen and no frozen conditions). Workshop Format The workshop will be a three-day event. It will start on May 07, 2015, in the morning, and will end on May 09, 2015, at noon. Along with the presentations of the workshop participants (15 minutes + 5 minutes for questions), an appreciable amount of time for discussions will be reserved. There will be no parallel sessions.
