Compacted expanded graphite in form of graphite foil and molded articles are widely used as a soft gasket material for industrial applications. Leakage performance of the gaskets is correlated with density and porosity of material, compressibility and recovery. Model of compacted expanded graphite and mechanism of gas permeation are both described by Lazard. However, correlation of gas permeation with initial properties and processing parameters to obtain expanded graphite is not reported. In present study we analyzed influence of preparation conditions on the gas permeation in thermally expanded graphite. Gas leakage through compacted graphite was measured for samples with various expansion temperature in the range of 500-1200oC to analyze influence of expansion temperature for gas permittivity
