The modern tradition of poetic recitation in China (shige langsong) is based on the evolving voice dimension of Chinese poetry. Its different versions stem from the same tradition of poetic recitation as means of conveing a hyperbolized emotion and as an agitation tool; they differ in the choice of their dominant stylistic and performance platforms. However, the unofficial poetry of contemporary PRC gives examples of a new type of work with voiced texts – as a kind of reference to the classics. That is recitation with an accompaniment, which actualizes the melodics of speech and highlightes its prosody. It focuses on audio presentation of the texts using hybrid presentation formats, where the very structure of the versified words enhances the experience of poetry during declamatory performances.
