We present a workflow for solution of upscaling problem of elastic properties of hydrocarbon reservoir rocks going from a finest scale on which hydrocarbon starts to move (nano- or micrometers – depending on the rock type) to the seismic scale. This approach is based on Rock Physics model constructing at each scale based on rock microstructure analysis and elastic wave velocity measurements at the respective scale. In the upscaling we are goiging from smaller to larger scales incorporating all specific features of rock inherent at previous scales including anisotropy. This approach makes it possible to solve downscaling problem on determination parameters characterizing pore/crack geometry of different types and scales from velocity measurements at log and seismic scales.
