A synthetic approach was developed and a number of ferrocenyl substituted amino acids (including both L-, D- and racemic forms) with a pyrazole linker were obtained. Namely, glycine, alanine, phenylalanine, valine, serine, tyrosine, tryptophan, proline and amino-amino-butyric acid in the form of methyl esters were modified with ferrocene. Initial in vivo electrophysiological studies of the first representatives of a number of ferrocenyl amino acids, namely, ferrocenyl (phenylpyrazolyl)-glycine methyl ester, ferrocenyl (phenylpyrazolyl)-(D)-alanine and ferrocenyl (phenylpyrazolyl)-(L)-alanine in the hippocampus, a key structure involved in learning and memory, were conducted.
