Technetium (Tc), the lightest element with all radioactive isotopes, did not attract much attention from researchers back at the time of its discovery in 1937. Nevertheless, the interest in Tc has constantly increased since the middle of the last century because of two reasons, namely (1) the ability to use the element as the agent for obtaining radioimages in medicine and (2) formation of generous Tc quantities during nuclear fission, which primarily occurs as the nuclear fuel (e.g. uranium) is burned out in the reactor. Respectively, Tc is present in solid and liquid radioactive waste. Tc species are highly mobile and thus present a threat of natural environment contamination, especially in nuclear waste recycling facilities. Because of that, the research of ways to immobilize by-product Tc continues. The report aimed to give a brief overview of recent advancements in such research.
