Poster presentation. ABSTARCT It is well known that arthropods lack of locomotory cilia. Motile cilia may remain in male gametes of some arthropods while non-motile cilia are common in many types of sensory organs. When studying the ultrastructure of pycnogonid [Nymphon brevirostre] we have found rudimentary single cilia in some organs of adult and larvae. Some cells of gonad wall have rudimentary cilia pointed to the gonocoel that gives the last similarity to the true coelom. Some cells of the midgut of adult and larvae bear the non-motile single cilia. Protonymphon larvae have single cilia in epidermis of body and at the bases of limbs as well as in epidermis of ventral organs. In all cases, the cells bearing the cilia have no signs of sensory cells and don’t differ from neighbouring cells of the same organ. Striated rootlets have never been found, but the accessory centriole has been detected in some cases. At present, it is impossible to make a decision if the non-motile cilia of pycnogonids are pure atavism or they do have any real function.
