The discussion regarding the timing of large wood residues mineralization in forest ecosystems has a long history and is still relevant because of the carbon pool modeling and climate changes prediction in the Earth’s biosphere. The report will present new data on the absolute ages of deadwood in boreal ecosystems (Middle Ural region, Russia) obtained by the radiocarbon method. In addition, the results of a 10-year experiment on the exposition of large wood residues on soil will also be presented. These data allow increasing the possible periods of decomposition of dead wood in the taiga zone up to several hundred years. In addition, some tree species (for example, Siberian pine) make up a special carbon pool deposited in dead wood that is characterized by maximum mineralization periods.
