Transitional periods taking place in the atmospheric boundary layer happen to be challenging to model due to their non-stationary nature. Large-eddy simulation (LES) models have proven themselves to be sufficiently accurate for modeling evening transitions, and now, a possibility to adapt turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) closure models for calculations in single-column models appears to be very plausible. In this study, the modeling of evening transition is analysed with an emphasis on the pattern of the TKE decay, which follows the power law 𝐸(𝑡)∝𝑡−𝛼. The effect of different parameters on the outcome of the simulation is explored, along with how the model is influenced by the presence of the geostrophic wind. It is shown that the model presented here behaves in a manner similar to that of the LES model, thus proving the aforementioned adaptation to be possible and worth being investigated further.
