It is believed that acute kidney injury (AKI) under pathologies such as ischemia, rhabdomyolysis and drugs nephrotoxicity is associated with oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage. Recently it has been shown that glycogen synthase kinase-3beta (GSK-3b) is a convergence point of protection signaling on mitochondrion. In this study, we demonstrate that GSK-3 inhibition caused a decrease in the severity of AKI. We found that preconditioning protective signaling pathways are converged on glycogen synthase kinase 3β (GSK3β). Thus, inhibition of GSK-3b activity through pharmacological treatment or ischemic PC results in significant decrease of AKI and could be proposed as perspective therapeutic strategy under various renal pathologies.
