The paper deals with the challenges faced by translators who work with various kinds of politics-related texts. The key focus is on the translation gaps arising from differences in the English and Russian systems of political concepts. The purpose of the paper is to consider whether the translation techniques used in this case are always successful and what linguistic and, more often than not, extralinguistic factors should be taken into account in an attempt to reach complete (or at least near-complete) mutual understanding. The research covers different styles and genres of texts, as a similar term can have different meanings depending on the speaker, the addressee, the general context, the inherent message etc. The article also focuses on the interaction between individual decisions made by translators and the long-term influence they make on the system of concepts in the target language.
