The last decades are characterized by a special role of personal qualities of political leaders in general and heads of state. This fully applies to the leadership of the Republic of Austria. Austria has been the core of the Habsburg monarchy for centuries and has become an original and influential subject in the space of European politics. Thanks to the influence of the federal chancellors, who acted not only as subjects, but also as operators of political power, the Republic of Austria was able to exist relatively independently in the global space as a neutral state. The institute of the Austrian chancellorship is influenced by the personal characteristics of political figures, among which one can distinguish the style of interpersonal relations, the peculiarities of thinking, political behavior and the specifics of overcoming political upheavals. In this regard, promising methodological tasks for scientists are to clarify and develop the conceptual apparatus of research in the field of studying the personal characteristics of federal chancellors, analysis and conceptualization of theoretical, experimental and applied methods for studying the personality of politicians. The methodological part is based on the general scientific principles of analysis, synthesis, abstraction, methods of political science and political-psychological research. This article uses methodological tools that integrate the research capabilities of the methods of political science, psychology, sociology, conflictology and several other sciences, united by the principles of interdisciplinary, comparative historical study of the research problem itself. The main research methods are the psychobiographic method, the method of non-included observation, content analysis and case studies.
