MAX-phases are the class of ternary carbides and nitrides with a general formula Mn+1AXn, where M is an early transition metal, A is an A-group element and X is either C or N. MAX-phases are the object of great interest due to their unique set of properties which are the combination of metallic (good thermal and electrical conductivity) and ceramic (excellent damage tolerance, good oxidation and thermal shock resistance) ones. Recently there were lots of doubts on the magnetic properties and even on the definition of ground magnetic state of (Cr1-xMnx)2AlC MAX-phase. Magnetoresistance of this compound has not been reported yet, despite pure Cr2AlC MR value can be found in literature. Bulk samples of (Cr1-xMnx)2AlC MAX-phase with x = 0, 0.025 and 0.05 were prepared using arc melting technique and analyzed using XRD method. Magnetoresistance measurements were carried out in a magnetic field up to 3.36 T using superconductive solenoid as a magnetic field source. Also M(H) and M(T) dependences in a magnetic field up to 1.6 T and in temperature range from 100 K to 400 K were achieved using VSM measurements. MR value of pure Cr2AlC is an order of 10-3 %, which converges with a literature data. In a sample with 2.5% manganese doping MR value raises by an order of magnitude and equals 0,04 % in a field of 3.36 T. In a sample with 5% of manganese MR value equals 2% in a field of 1.12 T and changes sign compared to the previously mentioned samples which may occur due to the change of prime charge carriers. Such a significant raise of MR value in a small range of manganese doping concentrations may be the reason to suggest (Cr1-xMnx)2AlC MAX-phase as a perspective candidate for sensors or spintronic applications.
