The paper explores Margaret Atwood's writing in terms of the pressing nature-related issues of today. Atwood's prose as well as her poems, though some of which created half a century ago, do offer some ideas that sound extremely relevant and timely at the dawn of the 21st century, when Nature has long ceased to be for us the "treasure trove of wonders". It still is, however, in Atwood's writing, urging us to reconsider our place within the world visible. We have attempted to uncover some of the pervasive motives in Atwoodian writing, both prose and poetry, that represent the author's creative vision of the human-nature relationship. We shall be specifically focusing on Atwood's innovative practices in the use of simile and metaphor.
