1. It has been shown that under the action of ozone, together with UV irradiation, complete (100%) decomposition of NPMG (active ingredient of the pesticide roundup (glyphosate)) occurs. It has been shown that the process has a multistage nature. The products of photochemical decomposition have been determinated. 2. By the methods of biotesting on luminescent bacteria of the Ecolum series and infusoria Tetrahymena pyriformis, it was found that phototransformation leads to a 10-fold decrease in the toxicity of NPMG. 3. It was shown by comparative studying the genetic effects for two genetic bacterial test systems (Salmonella/microsome and pColD-lux biosensor) that the phototransformation products contain substances with weak mutagenic and genotoxic activity. 4. The obtained data prove a high potential of the NPMG toxicity elimination method involving the UV irradiation of NPMG combined with the ozone treatment.
