The digital education ecosystem is actively developing in Russia. In order to easily embrace key trends in the industry, such as platformization, life-long learning, and adapting to the changes in the job market, companies often seek out various forms of partnerships for their external growth, including strategic alliances. This paper aims to provide an in-depth analysis of the purposes for forming strategic alliances on the e-learning market, to observe the way the trends shape Russian digital education marketspace from key stakeholders’ points of view, to study the case of online learning platform OpenEdu, co-founded by eight top Russian universities and to hypothesize about its further development. The findings may be of interest to those who want to develop a systematic view of the Russian e-learning ecosystem.
