In Mongolia, soil pollution with oil and petroleum products is, first of all, a problem of oil production areas and, as for most megacities, the capital of Mongolia. Assessment of the soil condition of the main exploited deposits of Mongolia (Tamtsagbulag and Zuunbayan) showed that according to the level of hydrocarbon pollution, the soils of Zuunbayan can be classified as uncontaminated (the concentration of hydrocarbons is “background", less than 100 mg/kg). Soil contamination of Tamtsagbulag varies from “background” to “moderate" (locally, near wells, up to 670 mg/kg). The use of remote sensing methods has shown that oil pollution of Tamtsagbulag soils at its locality and “moderate” level has a negative impact on vegetation cover. The soils of Ulaanbaatar are generally slightly polluted. However, the content of petroleum products in the soils of industrial and yurt zones is higher than 100 mg/kg. At oil depots and filling stations, pollution reaches 1000 mg/kg or more. Therefore, for the health of the population and sustainable development of Mongolia, the first priority is the adoption of a state program for monitoring and sanitation of the soils of Ulaanbaatar, where almost half of the country's population lives.
