Supramolecular self-assembly at interfaces is a powerful tool for integrating organic and inorganic compounds into hybrid nanostructures for a number of potentially useful applications such as sensing membranes, photoactive surface coatings, charge transferring layers, catalysis and photocatalysis. The synergy of interactions between organic and inorganic components due to the charge/energy exchange processes in hybrid structures may lead to the enhancement of properties or even to the emergence of new physical and chemical effects in these materials.
