The stresses, strains and displacements fields near the crack tip for Mode III anti-plane shear of multy-modular solids, are investigated. It is shown that the traditional approach to analyzing anti-plane shear cracks problems cannot be used due to the interrelation between shear and volume deformations in the materials under consideration, and it is necessary to use another hypothesis to satisfy all equations. Therefore, a general approach to the solution of these problems is proposed when all displacements are the functions of coordinates in a solid. It is common for some hypotheses to lead to peculiar or misleading results. Details and features of the new solution obtained for a crack under longitudinal shear conditions are presented. Under the conditions of out-of-plane shear, the opening of the crack faces is observed and the value of crack opening increases with the sensitivity of material properties to the alteration of the stress state type.
