Surface area and pore structure of differently prepared exfoliated graphite were studied by means of low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. Exfoliated graphite samples were obtained by chemical or electrochemical route using nitric acid or metal nitrate solutions. Both chemical and electrochemical treatment followed by exfoliation results in pore structure formation in graphite. Electrochemically prepared samples are noted for higher surface area and pores volume whereas chemical route leads to only surface area growth. The influence of graphite oxidation depth, exfoliation temperature and metal oxide presence on exfoliated graphite pore structure was evaluated. All samples were studied using XRD and Raman spectroscopy.
