Sediment redistribution dynamics can be a good indicator of climate change in different landscapes, in particular for the polar and high mountain regions, where climate fluctuations are particularly influenced by the intensity of glacier formation/destruction and rock weathering. As a consequence sediment redistribution rates are dynamic in these environments. There are three main applications of this technique: (1) assessment of sedimentation rates, (2) evaluation of contributions from different sediment sources to a sink zone and (3) calculation of sediment budgets. In addition it is possible to apply the FRN technique to evaluate sediment redistribution for individual slopes or for a slope catchment if it is important for understanding the mechanism of sediment mobilization for the total study area where there is interaction between glaciers and periglacial zones or between slopes and river channel processes. There are possibilities for using the FRN technique alone and in combination with other methods and techniques, depending on the local conditions and tasks of the investigation.
