This work presents the results of subsatellite measurements of coastal current fields in the North-Eastern part of the Black Sea. The expedition was carried out from 4th to 13th October 2013 on the basis of the Southern branch of P.P.Shirshov Institute of Oceanology in Gelendzhik. In the course of these scientific expedition the whole range of oceanographic and hydrometeorological parameters was collected. In-situ parameters of currents were acquired using vessel mounted ADCP TRDI Sentinel 300 kHz and a bottom mounted ADCP TRDI Sentinel 600 kHz , sea water characteristics were obtained by means of CTD mini-probe YSI CastAway and the hydrometeorological parameters were measured by the automated system, mounted on the end of the Golubaya Bay’s pier. The subsatellite measurements were accomplished in the area from the coastal zone to shelf edge within the boundaries of the Golubaya and Gelendzhik Bays’ transverse lines. All the contact and acoustic measurements were conducted from “Vega” research vessel accompanied by synchronous radar and visible range sensing from space. Radar, infra-red and optic images of high spatial resolution from the artificial Earth satellites TerraSAR-X, MODIS Terra/Aqua, AVHRR NOAA, Landsat were collected, processed and analyzed. During the experiments the spatial heterogeneity of the currents speed and direction in the shelf zone was revealed, as well as their temporal variability. A sharp change in flow direction within one day, the formation of vortex structures and breakthrough of the Main Black Sea Current’s jet were observed. Using data from bottom mounted ADCP in cases when the main current changed it was revealed passing 3D internal waves with different periods.
