From geyser to volcano: the universal eruption mechanism and its verification The fundamental mechanism of instability between the contacting volume of liquid and gas (Gas-Liquid-Imbalance mechanism) was described in detail in [1-3]. It is assumed that it is responsible for both the eruption of geysers (liquid is water, gas is water vapor) [1] and the eruption of volcanoes (liquid is magma, gases are water vapor, carbon dioxide) [2,3]. The verification of this mechanism was carried out both empirically with the help of simple experimental models, and theoretically using this mechanism to explain the standard and non-standard behavior of natural geysers, as well as for the interpretation of different types of volcanic eruptions. In this paper, a demonstration model simulating the work of "hot" and "cold" geysers is described, and the "paradoxical" behavior of a number of Kamchatka and Yellowstone geysers is considered and explained. It is also shown how the formation of a stratovolcano can be explained using the GLI mechanism, the caldera-forming eruptions were interpreted, as well as areal eruptions with the formation of monogenetic slag cones. 1.
