Simultaneous use of optical and electrochemical methods of investigation made it possible to study cathodic local dissolution of steel in a chloride-containing solution with the addition of a neutral buffer solution. It is established that in the studied range of potentials, which correspond to the potentials of electrochemical protection (ECP), pitting-form defects appeared. Since the displacement of the potential in the negative-level region is accompanied by an increase in the level of safety, this can lead to the fact that it will operate in real time. It has been established that even at low concentrations up to 1 mM thiourea contributes to the intensification of the defect formation process at cathode potentials.
