Описание:The course exploses the attitude toward science in Byzantium through the lens of theology. Church never banned the classical knowledge; moreover, many of the most distinguished Byzantine scholars held high offices in the Church. The course strives to explain the respectful attitude toward science by the popularity of the so-called “Apophatic Theology”, which avoided describing the Divine nature with human words because of the inadequacy of human language to portray God. This brranch of theology considered studying God’s creatures, including the world (kosmos) itself, to be a way to approach the understanding of the Divinity through Its deeds.
