Подготовка к публикации массива исторических документов (грамот) на немецком, русском и латинском языках XIV-XV в., относящихся к истории взаимоотношений Ганзы и Новгорода.

Charters present the most important research material for the study of the history of Novgorod. The edition of the charters of Novgorod the Great and Pskov ("Грамоты Великого Новгорода и Пскова"), published in 1949, is out of date and does not satisfy the needs of modern research in a number of aspects. This applies first of all to charters in foreign languages, concerning relations with the neighbours north and west of Novgorod, the Hanseatic union in the first place. The Hanse, represented by the Livonian cities and Lubeck, was Novgorod’s chief commercial partner. In the 1949 edition documents of this kind were reproduced from earlier publications, mostly German, without using the original manuscripts and without checking with them. This lead to inaccuracies which were taken over from these older editions, whereas a collation-based edition of documents surviving in a number of copies, was not even attempted. Moreover, in cases of available Russian and foreign versions only the Old Russian text was included in the 1949 edition. This deprived research of valuable chances to clear reading problems by comparing originals and translations. In the event of our archival research several new, previously unpublished charters of the 14th-15th centuries were discovered – an outstanding result, considering how rare unknown sources, pertaining to the time and area, are. All this lends high significance to the proposed aims of this project. Alongside with the treaties of Novgorod with the Hansa, various other documents and correspondence will be analyzed in order to obtain additional evidence for a more accurate dating and a profounder understanding of these treaties. Also, documents concerning the relations of Novgorod with the Teutonic Order, which had great influence on the Russian-Hanseatic affairs, will be taken into account. The aims and objectives of this project include an all-round analysis of the sources, their edition for publication, and studies on controversial issues of their dating and interpretation.
