Данный проект нацелен на создание всесторонней концепции моральной ответственности. В рамках настоящего исследования предполагается изучение и осмысление основных моментов развития дискуссии о моральной ответственности в классической (особенно античной и нововременной) и, по преимуществу, современной философии. Полученные результаты составят историко-философский фундамент проекта. На этой основе будут вестись концептуальные исследования по следующим направлениям: (1) онтология моральной ответственности, ее связь с тождеством личности и природой человека; (2) изучение условий уместного, правильного и справедливого возложения моральной ответственности; (3) нормативная этика моральной ответственности, связь феноменов моральной ответственности и моральных обязательств. Объединение результатов данных исследований даст целостную, многофакторную и комплексную теорию моральной ответственности.

This project aims to develop a comprehensive theory of moral responsibility. The present research intends to explore the main conceptual milestones in the development of the debate on moral responsibility in classical and chiefly contemporary philosophy. The results of this study will form a solid historical foundation on which the conceptual part of the project will be constructed. The latter will be carried out within the following areas: (1) ontology of moral responsibility, its relation to personal identity and human nature; (2) studying the conditions of holding somebody responsible in an appropriate, fitting, and just manner; (3) normative ethics of moral responsibility, the study of the relationship between moral responsibility and moral obligations. Combining the results of these studies will provide a coherent, multidimensional and comprehensive theory of moral responsibility. The relevance of the research topic is determined by the fact that the phenomenon of moral responsibility has both fundamental and applied aspects. What makes the results of our research significant theoretically is first and foremost that they can be applied to a wide range of philosophical problems, such as the problems of free will, personal identity, the nature of morality, etc. Based on the theoretical results of this project, ethical models can be constructed. These may compete with the already existing models developed primarily by the English-speaking (American and European) philosophers and largely lacking in Russian ethical discourse. Comparing the results obtained by Russian and foreign philosophers also has its own cultural and conceptual interest. A special problem is that of establishing the incommensurability between the moral dictionaries in the Russian language and the English one. Since most of the pertinent literature devoted to the phenomenon of moral responsibility is written in the latter, drawing the lines of similarity and dissimilarity in the terminological apparatus becomes especially important. The resulting model can be fruitfully applied in such research areas as studies of the ethical aspects of artificial intelligence and studies of the responsibility of marginal agents (D.Shoemaker's term), i.e. of people with some form of psychological disability. It can complement the current legislative, psychological, and historical approaches in this field. The results of the study can also be of practical significance. They can be used for the purposes of lecturing in higher education, in critical analysis of social and scientific discourses, in highly relevant for the public interest discussions about good and evil, retribution and forgiveness, in developing strategies to tackle anti-social and immoral behavior. A comprehensive theory of moral responsibility might help to facilitate discussions aimed at overcoming the conflict between different, culturally conditioned, and local understandings of moral responsibility. The novelty of the proposed research is determined by the following factors: (1) the study of the history of the debate on moral responsibility is conducted with an underlying common understanding of the state of the art in in this field of moral philosophy; (2) the study of the history of the debate on moral responsibility is conducted not only by the standard methods of history of philosophy (rational and historical reconstructions) but also by methods of corpus and cognitive linguistics, which makes the proposed project interdisciplinary; (3) The study of the phenomenon of moral responsibility is undertaken from a common theoretical perspective shared the project participants, which consists in understanding the necessary structural elements of the phenomenon of moral responsibility; (4) The conceptual research is based on the study and analysis of the vast material of discussions accumulated in world philosophy over the last half-century , but hardly represented in the Russian-language research literature. For instance, in contemporary Russian ontological studies of the problem of free will and determinism and the problem of personal identity, it is generally accepted that the phenomenon of moral responsibility is important for these fields. However, this phenomenon requires clarification and a more detailed conceptualization to be further applied in the ontology and other fields of philosophy. Clarifying the structure of the phenomenon of moral responsibility will have a positive impact on the methods used in these fields, as at the moment the particular kinds of the concept of moral responsibility used there are usually determined almost exclusively by personal preferences of the researchers, and their choice is in no way based on systematic research.

Исследовательский проект опирается на предшествующую теоретическую разработку проблемы моральной ответственности на материале философии Нового времени и современной аналитической философии.
