Аннотация:The principle of minimal entropy production is applied to predicting the stationary rate of flame propagation. In this approach steady flame propagation is identified with the non-equilibrium stationary thermodynamic state which is characterized, according to the theorem of Prigogine, by the minimal entropy production. The proposed method is tested by predicting the rate of one-dimensional, premixed, laminar gas flame propagation. The results are compared with the exact solution obtained by the approach generally employed, which uses the integral mass balance of the chemical species involved in the combustion reaction. A fairly satisfactory agreement is obtained.
