- Аннотация: Key words: the Modern Greek folklore, plants, legends, etiological. Abstract: In the Modern Greek folklore there are many etiological narratives referring to the plants. These folk legends can be divided into the legends on the origin of the new trees, bushes and flowers the legends with the emphasis put on aetiology of the plant features and characteristics and finally the legends that turn to be phytonym’s “amplification”. The principal modes of the origin of the plants are miraculous creation of the plants; first planting of the trees, flowers, herbs by a mythological personage or delivery of the grains, cuttings, grafts to the man; transformation of the human being or the mythological personage into the plant.
