Аннотация:Winged ant individuals were compared by characters of wing variability. A higher level of variability, expressed as the number of wing venation anomalies, was found in Formica rufa, a species with ground swarming, as compared with that in winged individuals of Lasius niger and Myrmica ruginodis forming aerial swarms. It is assumed that this fact results from the stabilizing selection retaining the stability of wing structures in species for which flight is an essential factor of successful breeding; in F. rufa, a species with another type of breeding behavior, the effect of stabilizing selection on wing structures is abated. Some characters of ant wing venation, associated with the size and sex of individuals, previously reported for other hymenopterans, are also revealed in ants.
