An investigation has been made of the hydrogenation of aromatic nitro compounds on Rh-polymer and Pd-polymer catalysts under mild conditions (t 20-60°C, pH2 = 0.1 MPa). It has been shown that, in the case of Pd-containing catalysts, aromatic amines are formed, but in the case of Rh-containing catalysts, alicyclic amines are formed. In the hydrogenation of dinitrobenzenes on Pd-containing catalysts, the process proceeds via the intermediate formation of nitroanilines, whereas on rhodium analogues phenylenediamines are formed instantaneously. The kinetics of hydrogenation of aromatic nitrocompounds has been studied. A mechanism has been proposed where the reaction of substrate-catalyst adducts with hydrogen is assumed to be the limiting stage. © 1992.
