Аннотация:The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the applicability of research results on the social aspects of seismic hazard in the Russian Federation (a case study of the region with high seismic activity — Far Eastern Federal District (FEFD)). The obtained data can be used to assess additional risks for the population of this region. The areas of different intensity zones for the FEFD (in accordance with the regulatory maps GSZ-97 and GSZ-2016) and the number of the popula on living in each zone were compared. Comparison of the set of regulatory maps GSZ-97 and GSZ-2016 for the studied region shows the redistribution of areas in favor of zones of lower intensity. A significant reduction of the areas of zones with seismic intensity of 9 or more points allows to significantly reduce the costs at the design stage and to use the budget funds more efficiently. At the same time, the reliability of the GSZ-2016 maps was analyzed by comparing the values of the estimated seismic hazard with data on the strong earthquakes. Also, the safety of the population of the studied region was assessed. As a result of GSZ-2016 maps reliability verification, no special discrepancies were noted even for maps with a recurrence period of 500 years of shaking, characterized by a relatively high probability which (10% of the possible exceedance rate indicated on it during the 50-year time intervals). The statistics of seismic hazard for major cities of the FEFD were considered and changes in the transition from the GSZ-97 maps to the GSZ-2016 maps were identified. It is shown that the GSZ-2016 maps optimally represent the ratio of cost-effectiveness in the construction of structures of various levels of responsibility and ensure sufficient safety of the population.
