Аннотация:In this chapter we examine ethnic journalism in modern Russia through several lenses. First, we discuss the role of ethnic media in protecting cultures, languages, history and identities of ethnic groups in Russia. Second, we discuss the role of the state as owner, regulator and investor in ethnic media, and outline key trends in media regulation in Russia – in general and in relation to ethnic media in particular. Third, we move on from discussing ethnic journalism as a social mission to its professional dimension, looking into main funding sources and ownership forms of ethnic media in Russia, outlining content strategies of ethnic media, their target audience, distribution channels offline and online and showcasing some journalistic practices from Russian ethnic media.
