Аннотация:The research discusses issues concerning mechanical alloying (MA) synthesis of TiFe intermetallic compound (IMC) from individual components Ti and Fe. The partition coefficient of the apparent diffusion and the reaction rate constant, which take place during MA solid-state synthesis of the TiFe intermetallic compound in a water-cooled high-energy planetary ball mill, are approximately determinated. The apparent diffusion coefficient is close to 10-11 cm2/s. The reaction rate constant is close to 1.75·10-6. The apparent diffusion coefficient obtained by MA is approximately 1 order higher than the diffusion coefficient obtained at high temperature and shown in the references data. Also, the structure and the hydrogen storage properties of MA synthesised IMC TiFe are briefly discussed.
