Аннотация:The reaction of XeF2 with PuO3·nH2O in chloroform or carbon tetrachloride yields a Pu(VIII) compound, presumably plutonium tetroxide PuO4, soluble in these solvents. A compound soluble in chloroform or carbon tetrachloride should be electroneutral. The electronic absorption spectrum of this compound is fairly similar to the spectra of OsO4 or RuO4, first of all, due to the presence of vibrational structure. The large molar extinction coefficient of the absorption band of the compound (ε ≥ 2 × 10^3L/mol cm) is evidence that this band corresponds to ligand–metal charge transfer [π(O) → Pu]. Thus, a cogent argument for the above-assumed nature of the compound is its absorption spectrum shown in Fig. 1. In this paper, we report the results of the spectroscopic study of the compound in more detail.
