Аннотация:In general, stresses and strains in the oceanic plates are studied on the basis of the theory of elastic bending of thin plates. Due to the fact that the thickness of the oceanic plates is an order of magnitude less than their length, the plate thinness condition is formally satisfied with a margin. However, the major deformations are not evenly distributed along the plates and are concentrated near the subduction zone. Therefore, the effective length of these plates is less than the real one, and the thinness condition is partially not met. The corrections to bending deformations calculated according to the thin plate theory are estimated in this paper using the example of the Japanese Trench. The given formulas relate the stresses and strains in the plate at the point of sinking into the mantle with the measured trench depth and the plate dip angle.
