Аннотация:Viability of seeds stored in gas medium with decreased oxygen content was evaluated by the tetrasol method. The method was shown to be incorrect in this case. Delayed luminescence (DL) of air-dry seeds was used as an indicator of their viability. DL induced by visible light has been observed in air-dry seeds of various plants. DL of air-dry seeds was found to increase at lover viability levels of seeds during their natural or accelerated aging. There is a linear correlation between the logarithm of DL intensity and the viability of air-dry seeds. This method allows measuring DL from individual seed. For viable seeds, the DL intensity distribution is the Gaussian type with a small variance. With ageing, the distribution shifted toward higher intensities with greater variance. The differences in the DL intensities of individual seeds increase during their drying and nearly disappear with increasing moisture of the seeds. DL registration makes it possible to evaluate not only the seed condition at a given moment but also the prospect of storage.
