Аннотация:We analyzed frequency, duration and structure of songs of Thrush and Common nightingales inthe recently established contact zone in the Ciscaucasia as well as in allopatric populations of the Kursk andKrasnodar regions. In the western Ciscaucasia, where the Common Nightingale bred in the 1970s, it was currently not found, being completely replaced by the Thrush Nightingale. At the same time, a large mixed population of these species with approximately equal species ratio was found in western Kalmykia and in theadjoining parts of the Stavropol region. The songs of the Common Nightingale and the Thrush Nightingalefrom allopatric populations differ significantly from each other in a set of variables as well as in the PCA analysis. By contrast, in the contact zone in the Ciscaucasia, a distinct mutual convergence of the songs of thesespecies was found. We assume that there are two independent mechanisms for the exchange of songs betweendifferent species of nightingales. One of the mechanisms is the obvious borrowing by the Thrush nightingaleof the integral song types of a Common nightingale through vocal learning.
